All started with a girl named Chell a sewing machine
Effy the Label was born from a love of clothing and a growing discomfort with the way clothing was being made. After years in the garment industry, I started to feel disconnected from the clothes themselves. Everything seemed to be moving faster & made cheap. More collections. More trends. More clothes. And somewhere along the way, the story behind what we were wearing seemed to disappear. I always loved clothes, but I didn’t love what fashion was becoming. And honestly, I didn’t want to create another “sustainable” clothing brand that felt boring and greenwashed. I wanted something different.I wanted clothes that felt romantic, feminine, a little wild and good for you while still being thoughtful about what they were made from. So I started Effy. Named after my daughter, Effy began with handmade swimwear in my little corner of Northwestern Montana. Every piece was cut and sewn by hand, one at a time.There was no giant production line.No thousands of pieces sitting in a warehouse.Just me, my sewing machine, a pile of fabric, and an idea that clothes could be made a little more intentionally
And then Effy started growing
What began with bikinis slowly became something bigger. I learned that being thoughtful about materials doesn’t mean every fabric has to be perfect. It means knowing what you’re using, knowing why you’re using it, and not dressing something up with a bunch of sustainability buzzwords just to sell it. That’s become a huge part of Effy. No greenwashing. No “perfect” clothing. Just pretty clothes & thoughtful choices.
And where is Effy going?
Effy is growing, but I don’t want growth to mean becoming another version of the industry that made me want to start this in the first place. I want to keep making beautiful clothes. I want to keep experimenting with better materials. I want to make natural fibers feel exciting again. I want to make swimwear that you get to customize to feel like you. I want Effy to become a place for women who don’t have to choose between beautiful and thoughtful. And more than anything, I want Effy to remind us were all a little imperfect. A little adventurous. A little feminine with a hint of grit. Because maybe the future of fashion industry doesn’t have to be about having more. Maybe it’s about loving what you have more. Welcome to Effy.
